Blackhawk Online Academy

How do I Enroll During the 2023-2024 School Year?

Enrollment is based on an agreement between Blackhawk School Administration and the student’s family, and it gives students an opportunity to complete school work using online courses at home or at school, while allowing these Online Academy students the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities sponsored by the district. Additionally, each Blackhawk Online Academy student who completes all program requirements will be awarded a Blackhawk High School diploma and will be eligible to participate in Blackhawk High School commencement exercises.

The ideal time to enroll is at the beginning of a new marking period, allowing time for students to adjust to learning independently and increase their ability to be successful.   Plan ahead and submit the registration form at least two weeks prior to the beginning of a marking period.

What is Blackhawk Online Academy?

Blackhawk began offering online courses during the 2011-2012 school year for students in Grades 6-12 and then expanded to include students in Grades K-5 in 2016.  Blackhawk's Online Academy continues to improve and expand each school year to make online learning a great option for families in our district!   Online curriculum is aligned with brick and mortar curriculum to help students smoothly transition from brick and mortar to online and back to brick and mortar at the conclusion of a marking period if online learning is not the best option and/or the reason why a famly chooses virtual learning changes.

Our elementary cyber service is built on the Compass Odyssey platform. The program’s lessons are interactive and geared toward the elementary learner. Each lesson in Compass has been hand selected to align with Blackhawk’s curriculum and students are provided offline materials to complete that help reinforce the lessons.

Our cyber students in Grades 5-12 use the Edgenuity platform where courses are also customized to align with Blackhawk’s curriculum to make online learning engaging, rigorous, and relevant.

In addition, Blackhawk Online Academy provides asynchronous instruction where students can participate in the learning at the time of day that best meets their needs.  Blackhawk Online Academy students may access videos and materials at their own pace and Blackhawk teachers monitor and grade the Edgenuity and Compass activities.
